Ruyi Swimming Pool & Varenda

The project creates a recreational venue including swimming pool, a connective veranda and an inhabitable bridge over a water-gate of a dock to integrate with the landscape with coherent appearance during both the swimming and non-swimming seasons. The project facilitates the pedestrian flow along the water-front. It should apply the traditional Chinese architectural style in order to respond to the iconic pagoda on the other side of the lake.

The design developed a circle as the basic geometry for the swimming pool due to its shortest periphery for largest enclosed surface, and its transformability into an ice rink during the winter time. The different components of the program are combined into one continuous veranda starting from the swimming pool and ending with a circular pocket park, using different timber structural systems according to the spatial span and the geometries.
